The fence held conversations about childhoods marked by both chaos and beauty. Curiosity first sparked in the quiet chaos of childhood, and from that spark, curiosity becomes experience for this artist couple, Jerome Choco and Pabsie Martus. Grounded in a long, intimate conversation about the moments that shaped them, their practice weaves together shared geography, memories of the places they were raised, and the emotional weather that lingers there.
For this exhibit, the practice of Pabsie Martus and Jerome Chco unfolds at the threshold of contrast, sound and silence, decay and bloom, anger and tenderness. Through found objects, Jerome channels emotion through tactile resonance, converting distress into resonant soundscapes, the clang of a corrugated steel fence becomes a powerful chorus that heals as it echoes through space. Pabsie grew up amid household conflicts, often fleeing to the outdoors where her parents warned her not to go alone. Curiosity tugged her beyond the doorstep, and she found safety and stories in unexpected places. She discovered big, beautiful houses with nurturing gardens and discarded treasures, and forgotten interesting little corners, where she would linger among flowers and imagine tiny worlds unfolding.
