Galerie Stephanie joins Art Fair Tokyo
The Philippine Star, 9 May 2016

Galerie Stephanie participates in the next edition of Art Fair Tokyo, Japan’s largest art fair. Opening at the Tokyo International Forum on May 12, and running until May 14, Art Fair Tokyo brings 157 galleries around the world to exhibit works of contemporary art. For this year’s Art Fair Tokyo, Galerie Stephanie will be bringing new works by Filipino contemporary artists Iya Consorio-Barrioquinto and Indonesian contemporary artist Roby Dwi Antono.

Iya Consorio Barrioquinto is a graduate of the UST Fine Arts program. Her aesthetic gained attention at the 2015 edition of Art Fair Philippines, where she created art toys of mutated kawaii imagery that recalls the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima during World War II. She continues this vein for her works at Art Fair Tokyo, where paintings of multi-eyed and tentacle little girls are rendered in her characteristic monochrome palette.

Indonesian artist Roby Dwi Antono likewise paints contrasting imagery of the cute and profane. The artist from Yogyakarta admits to being heavily influenced by the works of Mark Ryden and the pop surrealist and lowbrow movement, and his paintings gleefully mix dream-like sequences with wit, humor and sarcasm.

Galerie Stephanie will be at booth N54 at Art Fair Tokyo at Tokyo International Forum, Marunouchi 3-5-1, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-0005, Japan. For inquiries, call Galerie Stephanie at 709-1488 or email inquiry.galeriestephanie@gmail.com.
