This solo exhibition by Genavee Lazaro parses the self through painterly rehearsals of the unconscious. It derives its subject matter from the artist’s dreams, recorded in voice memos and distilled into key visual components.
Recognizing that these mental experiences are but registers of lived encounters, the collection marks a vulnerable act for Lazaro who reveals her life in intimate unfolding as she makes sense of the people, places, objects, and events in her dreams. Altogether, both paintings and audio recordings (produced with Andrew Florentino) invite us to apprehend a practice always correspondent with the self, always in the process of bold revelation.
